My passion is to help women achieve the birth they desire! Pregnancy and birth is a beautiful time in a woman's life and should be celebrated, honored, and respected.
I became certified as a doula over ten years ago, following the birth of my own daughter in 1997. I quickly followed up with Childbirth Educator training, with my trainings and certifications carried out through CAPPA (Childbirth and Postpartum Professionals Association). Shortly after becoming a doula and childbirth educator, I became trained as a postpartum doula. In over 100 attended births and numerous continuing education opportunities, I have truly expanded my field to help women achieve a natural, unmedicated birth, prevent complications from ever arising, and help women and their partners feel empowered and happy with their birth experience. Informed consent is my platform and I think there is no truer saying than "If you don't know your options, you don't have any."
Over the years I have developed a profound interest in helping women and their partners heal from previous traumatic birth experiences. As a result, I have begun a Knoxville Chapter for ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network). This organization, along with professionals like myself, helps spread awareness about prevention of, accurate information concerning, and healing from surgical births. Watching a woman realize her dream of a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) is one of the greatest joys in my life. Working closely with other holistic providers in Knoxville and surrounding areas allows me to make recommendations for healing, empowerment, providers, support groups, and more!
I offer free consultations to anyone considering having a doula at their birth or postpartum period! My labor/birth doula services consist of:
· Two prenatal appointments, minimum
· Continuous labor support for your birth
· 24/7 phone support, resources, email support
· Large lending library of books and videos
· Discounted or free prepared childbirth classes
· Immediate breastfeeding and postpartum support
· One postpartum visit to check on you, admire the baby, and process your birth experience
Postpartum doula services consist of whatever your family needs to smooth the transition of a new baby in the home! Some popular choices are:
· Overnight help
· Newborn baby care and advice
· Breastfeeding advice and support
· Light housekeeping
· Errand running
· Meal preparation
Prepared childbirth classes give you the tools you need to have an enjoyable and informed birth. Learning with your partner facilitates communication, eases fears, fosters love, affords opportunities to meet other expectant families, and much more! Group or private classes available in the following categories:
· Complete Prepared Childbirth series, approximately 12 hours of instruction
· Comfort Measures.. for those desiring a natural birth and how to have one! (Great refresher course for those who have birthed before)
· Breastfeeding Class
· Newborn Baby Care, can be combined with Older Sibling Fun! I'm a big brother/sister, if desired
· Early Nutrition and Prenatal Care
· Preparing for Vaginal Birth after Cesarean
